My Opinion on Marijuana

I believe that Marijuana should not be imposed upon to the population through advertising, as shown in the Marijuana candy, however it is not a very big deal because there aren't many adverse effects of Marijuana, as the stupid stoners and troublesome arrests columns wrote about. I think that Medical Marijuana should be legalized because it provides beneficial effects to those in need of the conditions that one gets after ingesting Marijuana, however, this allows for more leniency in the use of Marijuana. This is okay because there are not many adverse effects and it can cause and increase of wealth in the business, and less "troublesome arrests". In regards to doctors and the difficult position they are placed in, I believe that doctors under the legal law of prescribing Medical Marijuana should listen to their own morals and beliefs and prescribe Marijuana only if they want. It ultimately is up to the opinion of the doctor to prescribe the federally illegal drug. Overall, I believe that Marijuana should not be illegal, however, there should be laws monitoring the use of Marijuana, like the use of alcohol.

"Stupid Stoners"

Investigators involved with the Center for Mental Health Research find not many impacts of Cannabis on users' cognitive functions. Also, improved performance is shown in those who sustain from using Cannabis from those who are light or heavy users, however, only in a very small percent. The investigators believe that there are no effects of Marijuana. The effects are from either past factors or are easily reversible. A study shows that those who abuse alcohol show less damage while using Marijuana, a productive effect of Marijuana use.

Medical Dispensary (Photo)

The Medical Dispensary selling Marijuana illegally looks to be in a neighborhood that is not wealthy. The sign says open on the window showing that even though the product is being sold illegally, the Dispensary has not been taken by the law and is still in business. The Dispensary is named Riverside Wellness. The use of the word wellness shows that they believe the use of Marijuana is beneficial in a medical sense.

Marijuana Arrests are Troublesome

Raymond Kelly, an officer in the NYPD, tells his fellow officers not to arrest those found with small amounts of marijuana unless it is in plain view. He sees that too many are arrested, mostly racial minority males, from small amounts of marijuana, and it is not a large deal unless they are imposing it onto the public. It was said that marijuana arrests are done to keep criminals off of the street, however, most arrested had never imposed violence or been found of any other crime.

A Hard Position Placed Upon Doctors

http://www.opposingviews.com/i/health/addiction/california-medical-association-legalize-marijuana

California Medical Association recently passed the law allowing doctors to prescribe Medical Marijuana. A Sacramento physician, Dr. Donald Lyman, shows his ambivalence towards this subject. He states that Marijuana is the first drug largely advocated to be legalized in the United States and that California is one of the only states in the U.S. that has legislation allowing the consumption of marijuana. This is a hard situation for doctors to prescribe marijuana because the federal law states that it is an illegal drug, however, the state law says doctors are legally (morally comes into the minds of the doctors) able to prescribe the drug. He believes that the criminalization of perpetrators using the drug is far worse than the hazards of the drug and it should be maintained like alcohol but be legal.

Marijuana Without the Marijuana

The associated press publishes that politicians are showing their outrage over a new candy that looks like marijuana, however, has no marijuana substance inside of it. Candies not containing marijuana but shaped like the drug are very dangerous. It will impact and cause young children to think that drugs are okay and "taste good". Refusing to license stores who sell it begins to cross the fine line between safety and censorship. The candy is banned to stop offensive and dangerous messages that can be carried into the minds of young children.
